Periwinkle,otherwise known as Catharanthus roseus is traditionally used as an abortificent,purgative,antidiabetic,diuretic,haemorrhagic,antimalarial,antidysentric and agaist skin diseases.
Modern investigation have shown that periwinkle contains more than 100 alkaloids,distributed through all the parts of plants.It has medicinal importance owing to availability of various alkaloids for different properties like hypotensive,antispasmodic,anti cancer,anti leukemia,to cure Hodgkin's disease and choriocarcinomas.
